DIY Dry Shampoo for Blondes + Brunettes

diy dry shampoo recipe blondes brunettes non toxic healthy vegan

If you’re like me, you probably prefer not having to spend money on something you could easily make yourself!

Dry shampoo falls into that category for me!

For so many years, I would walk into my local drugstore, wander down the aisles and basically throw money away every few weeks on a new bottle of dry shampoo.

I finally decided to ditch the unwanted chemicals, preservatives and aerosol (that just adds to pollution). I switched to my all-natural DIY 3 ingredient dry shampoo!

To all the blondes, simply omit the cocoa powder and you have a 2 ingredient dry shampoo!

I swear my hair is naturally stronger + healthier since switching to my homemade version!

Let me give you a quick breakdown on the benefits of each ingredient:

Arrowroot Powder – absorbs excess oil + safe for all hair types
Cocoa Powder – adds vibrancy + shine
Lavender Essential Oil – antimicrobial + promotes healthy hair growth
Rosemary Essential Oil – stimulates new hair growth + increases circulation in the scalp

DIY Dry Shampoo Recipe

  • 1 oz arrowroot powder
  • 1 oz cocoa powder (optional: for my brunettes)
  • 5 drops of lavender or rosemary essential oil

Directions:

    1. Mix arrowroot powder, cocoa powder (for brunettes) and essential oils together in a small bowl
    2. Store the mixture in a small container
    3. Apply as needed to hair roots and oily sections
    4. Massage into hair to distribute evenly

* Tips:

  • Store your DIY dry shampoo in an empty spice container (I reuse my TJ’s Everything But the Bagel Seasoning!)
  • Be careful when applying to hair (I do it while I’m in my PJ’s) so you don’t get any residue on your clothes
  • After applying, work the dry shampoo into your scalp with your fingertips – massage it in everywhere!
