Sauna’s are great way to get rid of unwanted toxins, heal injuries and illnesses, improve your skin, relax and ultimately, benefit your overall lifestyle. While traditional saunas have been around for a long time, infrared saunas are the newest technology revolutionizing the wellness world.
Infrared saunas are unique because the heat waves penetrate the body at a much lower temperature than traditional saunas.
I’ve been wanting to try an infrared sauna for the longest time for all of the benefits! Also, because fun fact, I’m Finnish. And Finland is pretty much known for their sauna culture.
My first experience
I decided to try Sweatheory, located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.
This location is really beautiful and definitely has the relaxing + healing vibes I expected.
Since I booked the hour long “Sweat Yourself” infrared session, I was taken to my private room.
The room included a shower, robe, tons of towels, the sauna, a mason jar + glass bottle of filtered reverse osmosis alkaline water and a few other goodies like extra hair ties, ear plugs + makeup remover.
Just a little note if you plan on going soon, the attendant starts the timer right away. I highly suggest undressing and hopping in the sauna right away.
I honestly didn’t start sweating until about 10 minutes in. And then, I didn’t stop.
The water was super handy to keep inside the sauna so that I didn’t get dehydrated. I drank the whole thing.
I stayed inside the sauna for about 40 minutes altogether. While inside, I tried to make this experience as peaceful and relaxing as possible. I put the earplugs in and practicing some deep breaths.
Afterwards, I hopped in the shower to cool off + wash all the sweat off.
I’m not sure if this is a common practice among saunas, but having the private shower was a huge benefit. I can’t imagine trying to put my clothes back on if I was all sweaty.
Post-sauna, I instantly felt zen. I was also in an amazing mood.
Did you know that infrared sauna’s decrease cortisol and increase serotonin levels?
Believe me, I felt it all day!
If you are in the LA area, I highly recommend booking a session Sweatheory! They’re reasonably priced for the amount of benefits you’ll be receiving (it was $35).
I plan on coming back soon, and hopefully convincing Aaron to join me as well for a “Social Sweat”.
Tips for newbies:
- Drink a ton of water before, during + after your session
- Don’t drink alcohol before – it will make you even more dehydrated
- Remove all makeup before hopping in the sauna
- Wear loose-fitting clothing after your session
Have you ever tried an infrared sauna? My dream one day is to own one in our future house! *definitely manifesting that*
