How To Survive Red-Eye Flights
Since moving to Los Angeles, red-eyes are the only way I fly home. They’re usually pretty inexpensive, plus you don’t have to deal with the additional hours due to time change.
On the other hand, red-eyes can really mess with your sleep schedule, dehydrate your body + just make you feel “off” in general.
Here are 5 of my favorite hacks:
1. Always pack a reusable water bottle in your carry on.
Trust me on this one. You’ll save money + reduce waste with this little switch.
I honestly can’t live without my white Hydroflask water bottle! I always search for the filling station immediately after going through security so I’m good to go.
2. Stick to your normal PM routine.
Pack the necessities in your carry-on. If you usually read a book, wash your face and brush your teeth before sleeping at home, why not do the same on your flight?
By sticking to your usual routine, your body will get the clue that you’re ready to sleep!
3. Download a relaxing playlist (or meditation) to tune out the noise.
I’m a huge fan of Spotify! I love any of the relaxation playlists.
It’s super convenient to have these songs available to drown out all the loud noises on the airplane.
Tip: make sure you download the playlist ahead of time so you can play it without having to be on wifi!
4. Skip the snacks + bubbly beverages.
I personally enjoy fasting on red eyes because, A: I don’t normally snack at 11:00pm and B: My body doesn’t deal with the pressure very well.
This may be TMI, but I get gassy on long flights! Instead, I’ll bring my own caffeine-free tea bag and fill up my reusable cup with hot water at Starbucks!
Peppermint tea is always my go-to because it’s so soothing on your stomach and aids with digestion!
5. Lay on the moisturizer!
The air in the cabins are extremely dry from low humidity – so it’s important to hydrate your skin on any flight, not just red-eyes!
First, remove any excess makeup with a cleansing wipe. Then, lay on your favorite non-toxic moisturizer.
I’m obsessed with this super affordable and moisturizing chia facial oil from Cocokind! It leaves my skin super soft and smooth!
